CEO meeting on Ginger Export

Pakistan is spending an average of 80 million USD annually to import ginger from China and Thailand. Realizing the need for import substitution, Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company organized a consultative session on “Import Substitution for Ginger in Pakistan”. Issues related to Ginger harvesting, seed varieties suitable for domestic environment and way forward for export of ginger were discussed at length in the meeting. Dr. Kausar Ali Zaidi (C.E.O PHDEC) chaired the meeting with active participation from Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Headquaters Islamabad and Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad, Pakistan.

Good Agricultural Practices of Onion

Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company (PHDEC) in pursuance of its 3-years workplan, conducted its second workshop on “Good Agricultural Practices of Onion” in collaboration with Onion Research Institute (ORI), Hyderabad. The activity initiated at Onion Research Institute (ORI), where Dr. Rasool Bux Laghari, Director (ORI) provided training to the farmers on onion bed formation for seed and plantation of onion for seed production followed by lectures from Dr. Jamil Jokhyio, Dr. Tanveer Fatima Miano, and other agriculture officers from Department of Agriculture, Sindh. The activity sensitized a large number of farmers, growers, people from research institutions, academia, government officials and growers’ associations from Sindh. Among other prominent speakers were Mr. Mahmood Nawaz Shah, Vice President Sindh Abadgar, Mr. Imran Ali Bozdar, Finance Secretary, Sindh Abadgar, and Mr. Shafique Ahmed from FFC.

Good Agricultural Practices of Mango

Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company while continuing its vision of promoting excellence in the horticulture sector of Pakistan, arranged an online workshop on Good Agricultural Practices of Mango. Participants in attendance, were enlightened on pruning, irrigation, fertilization, IPM, quality, yield, new varieties, orchard layout and Product certification. Dr. Javaid Iqbal from Mango Research Station Shujabad was the key note speaker. PHDEC’s efforts were greatly lauded by the growers and processors, who further requested that such capacity building measures should continue in the future to improve yield quality and quantity.
