PHDEC presents a special podcast session focusing on the future of Pakistan–China agricultural trade and export cooperation, featuring distinguished guest speakers from both countries. The session brings together policy-level insights and private-sector expertise to explore sustainable pathways for bilateral collaboration in the agro-sector.
The podcast features the Pakistan Ambassador to China, who shares strategic perspectives on Pak–China relations, agricultural diplomacy, market access, and the role of government-to-government cooperation in enhancing agri-exports. The discussion highlights emerging opportunities under evolving trade frameworks and the importance of technology transfer, investment facilitation, and regulatory alignment.
Joining the session is Mr. Zhou Xhousheng, Director of Wuhan Qingfa-Hesheng Seed Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the state-owned China National Agricultural Development Group. Based in Wuhan’s renowned “China Seed Valley,” the company is an ISO-certified leader in seed research, development, and commercialization. In Pakistan, the company is actively collaborating with key national institutions including PARC and AARI, with eight rice varieties and two canola varieties already registered for local cultivation—demonstrating a successful model of cross-border agricultural innovation.
The discussion focuses on leveraging China’s advanced agricultural technologies, high-yield seed development, and value-chain expertise to support Pakistan’s productivity, quality enhancement, and export competitiveness. Key themes include joint research, seed development, certification, traceability, and long-term partnerships aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s agri-exports to China and beyond.

8th January 2026, PHDEC in collaboration with Agriculture Extension Dept. Mingora Lower Swat, successfully organized a webinar on “Peach Orchard Management During & After Dormancy for High Yield and Quality Production” to enhance growers’ understanding of critical orchard practices required during the dormant phase of peach trees. The webinar brought together peach growers, extension officers, researchers, and value-chain stakeholders from major peach-producing regions of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, District Director, Agriculture Extension Department, Mingora during the webinar emphasized that timely and scientific orchard management during this stage helps trees recover from the previous harvest stress and prepares them for uniform and healthy flowering in the next season.
Key technical areas discussed by Dr. Iftikhar included proper pruning techniques, removal of diseased and unproductive branches, and canopy management to improve sunlight penetration and air circulation. They also highlighted the importance of balanced nutrient management, particularly the application of phosphorus, potassium, micronutrients, and organic matter to strengthen tree vigor and enhance flowering potential.

The webinar further focused on irrigation management during dormancy, advising controlled water application to avoid excessive vegetative growth while maintaining adequate soil moisture for root health. Participants were also guided on soil health improvement, mulching practices, and drainage management, especially in orchards affected by waterlogging or climatic stress.

Attention was given to integrated pest and disease management (IPM), as dormant orchards provide an opportunity to control insect populations and disease inoculum through orchard sanitation, dormant sprays, and cultural practices. stressed that early intervention during dormancy reduces pest pressure during flowering and fruiting stages.

The session also addressed the impacts of climate variability, encouraging peach growers to adopt climate-smart practices to mitigate temperature fluctuations and irregular rainfall. An interactive question-and-answer segment allowed participants to discuss region-specific challenges and receive expert guidance.

The webinar served as a timely intervention to equip peach growers with scientific knowledge and practical tools for effective orchard management during dormancy. Through continued follow-up and field-level support, PHDEC aims to improve peach productivity, quality, and sustainability, ultimately strengthening Pakistan’s peach value chain and export potential.

The meeting focused on reviewing progress on the initiated deals and outlining next steps to help mature pending export opportunities. The discussion covered potential market prospects and the engagement of relevant departments and trade missions to support exporters in finalizing negotiations initiated during FoodAg-2025.

PHDEC organized a follow-up session on the FoodAg-2025 export deals of horticulture exhibitors. The meeting focused on reviewing progress on the initiated deals and outlining next steps to help mature pending export opportunities. The discussion covered potential market prospects and the engagement of relevant departments and trade missions to support exporters in finalizing negotiations initiated during FoodAg-2025.
The session emphasized promoting Pakistani exports—particularly dried fruits and value-added horticulture products—to regional and international markets. Exporters shared updates on their efforts to establish connections with foreign buyers and their plans to participate in upcoming international exhibitions such as Gul Foods, FoodX Asia and Fancy Food USA.
The CEO-PHDEC highlighted the importance of developing a structured platform to connect Pakistani exporters with global buyers, alongside strengthening product quality, packaging, and branding. He also informed that PHDEC is planning to participate in Gulf Food Exhibition 2027 and establish PHDEC's pavilion over there and shall support the entrepreneurs to showcase their products in PHDEC’S pavilion.
Exhibitors also shared their experiences from participating in FoodAg-2025, expressing optimism for enhanced export volumes in the upcoming season.

Next Steps

1) PHDEC team to approach participants to collect feedback and inputs from the event as per the prescribed format.

2) Follow-up on expected export deals to support exporters in maturing negotiations by engaging relevant government departments and trade missions.

3) PHDEC to provide technical support to exporters on packaging and labeling improvements.

4) PHDEC team to organize a workshop in Chilas on processing, roasting, and packaging techniques for pine nuts and walnuts.

5) Conduct a three-month follow-up meeting with exhibitors to track progress on actualized deals and initial shipments.

6) Assist exporters in resolving hurdles encountered in their export processes.
