Recognizing the sensitivity, farmers and relevant stakeholders were educated on enhancing both quality and quantity. Webinar on “Floriculture Sector in Pakistan: Issues, Challenges & Export Opportunities” aimed to provide guidance to progressive farmers and potential exporters on the lacunas of exporting fresh or dried flowers from Pakistan. Director Floriculture (Training and Research) from Agriculture Department Punjab, shed light on critical issues such as the availability of appropriate facilities for harvest and post-harvest management, inadequate storage facilities, outdated methods in processing/packing and the non-availability of cold chain facilities. He further emphasized the continued development of exports for high-quality flowers and bulbs into overseas markets with a special focus on roses for oil extraction. The webinar was arranged in the wake of recent protocol signed with Chinese government on export of white onion to chinese market. In the next session of webinar, Trade Missions at China will be invited to highlight potential of the market and price offered by the competitors.

On August 10, 2023, PHDEC hosted a webinar on Good Agricultural Practices for High Yield of Ginger!Ever wondered how to achieve a high yield of ginger right here in Pakistan? Well, the webinar had all the answers for you! The main focus was on finding alternatives to imports and boosting our local economy through ginger cultivation. Mr. Amir Latif, Scientific Officer from the Vegetable Research Institute at Ayub Agriculture Research Institute Faisalabad, took the virtual stage and shared invaluable insights. As an added bonus, he even unveiled a comprehensive cost-benefit analysis for cultivating ginger on a one-acre farm. Attendees were also treated to groundbreaking news from the Vegetable Research Institute, AARI, Faisalabad. They proudly introduced the very first ginger variety of 2023, “AARI GINGER 2023,” which was officially registered by the Punjab Seed Council in March this year.The session concluded with an engaging Q&A segment, where participants fired away with their burning questions and received expert advice right from the source.
